Erosion protection matting – Erosion control best management practices are required during any disruptive soil activity until permanent soil cover is in place. A good management practice is a physical, chemical, structural, or management approach that prevents, reduces, or treats water pollution or prevents or reduces soil erosion.
Preventing erosion may be the simplest and most practical action you can take to retain sediment on your site. The following BMPs protect and expose soil surfaces from rain spatter erosion and can help slow runoff in an area of soil disturbance. All sites should include at least one measure to prevent erosion when exposed to soil-disrupting activities.
The purpose of erosion control is to prevent the movement of topsoil and sediment and to aid in the establishment of vegetation. Unfortunately, some erosion control techniques can cover the ground but harm nature and the environment. Wildlife safe materials are 100% biodegradable and made from natural fibers. They use a loose weave (often called leno weave) that allows the animals to move freely.
Minimize the Use of Materials that can Cause Pollution
To minimize wildlife entrapment and plastic waste pollution, choose temporary erosion and sediment control products that do not contain netting and are not made from 100% biodegradable non-plastic materials such as jute, sisal or coir. Readily degradable, photodegradable, UV-degradable, oxo-degradable, or oxo-biodegradable plastic mesh (including polypropylene, nylon, polyethylene, and polyester) are not acceptable alternatives.
All netting materials used must be of a wildlife-proof, loosely woven design with non-welded movable joints between horizontal and vertical yarns that allow the cords to move independently, thus reducing the risk of wildlife entanglement. Erosion control blankets and mats should be pinned to the ground, secured with wooden stakes and buried around the edges. Elongated (rectangular) and non-square nets reduce game entanglements. Avoid using mud barriers reinforced with wire mesh or plastic mesh. When no longer needed, temporary erosion and sediment control products should be removed promptly, usually once vegetation has become established in the soil.
Coir Geotextiles Erosion Protection Matting
Erosion Control Mat is a natural anti-erosion coir geotextiles products, a flexible and lightweight 3D mat made of high-strength coir geotextile that protects the slope surface from erosive soil, reduces emissions and promotes infiltration. Erosion control mats largely protect the soil surface from erosion and quickly create lawns.
In other words, the coir geotextile stabilized with Erosion Control Mat reduces the possibility of erosion from further heavy rains and provides a green vegetation layer on rivers, banks, pond edges, steep slopes and grassy swamps. Planted erosion control mats prevent soil and sediment erosion and provide excellent filtration and vegetation, improving soil conditions and slope stability.
